BOOK REVIEW: The Way of the Shepherd

Available on Amazon

The Way of the Shepherd is leadership book unlike anything I have read or heard of before. It is a brilliantly written parable laying out a leadership philosophy that would completely change our world if everyone followed it. The book outlines 7 traits or actions of a good shepherd and holds them up as essential principles for leaders who want to get the most out of those they are leading in the healthiest possible way.

When I first read this book I couldn’t shake the feeling that this must be a true story. I even spent a bit of time researching the characters only to find that it is a parable. The way it is written lead me to want to be like the characters in the book, not just knowing a list of leadership principles but embracing the way of the shepherd in my life.

Instead of stating and justifying a standard (or even outdated) list of leadership principles, Leman and Pentak take you on a journey of discovery that is easy to imagine yourself in. The leadership principles are clear and practical, but presented in a way that makes sense in everyday life and immediately actionable.

“He tends sheep for the money. I do it because I love the sheep, and that makes all the difference.”

The Way of the Shephard

I would recommend this book for anyone with any kind of leadership influence over others. Parents, CEOs, Sunday School teachers, sports coaches, small business owners. This is not a book about winning or succeeding or meeting quarterly targets, but about people and getting the most out of them.

The Way of the Shepherd is available as hardcover, audiobook and on Kindle.
